DyKnow Notebook Writer Does Not Install on Windows 8

UPDATE: Windows 8.1 has greatly simplified this workflow

To get Notebook Writer installed:

  1. Install .NET 3.5 SP1. Steps can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443.aspx

 

  

Windows 8.0

When trying to install DyKnow Notebook Writer on Windows 8, you get an error:

"Operation could not be completed (Error 0x800f024b)."

The hash for the file is not present in the specified catalog file. The file is likely corrupt or the victim of tampering. 

To get Notebook Writer installed:

  1. Install .NET 3.5 SP1. Steps can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443.aspx
  2. Temporarily disable device driver signing enforcement. Steps can be found here:http://www.technipages.com/windows-8-disable-device-driver-signing.html

Concerning step 2, once you have restarted the computer it will once again require device driver signing during installation. This will prevent future unsigned installations in the event they are not a trusted party.
