INTRODUCTION

DyKnow’s Import Manager feature enables DyKnow Administrators to easily import data from hosted versions of PowerSchool into DyKnow.

Important: Your PowerSchool data must include a username field in the student_web_id field if you are using Windows or Mac devices.

This document is a resource for DyKnow Administrators to understand:

 

HOW TO DOWNLOAD DYKNOW POWERSCHOOL PLUGIN

Follow the steps below to download the PowerSchool plugin from DyKnow:

1. Click the gear icon DyKnow_Web_App_-_gear_icon.png in DyKnow.

2. Click the Import Manager tab.

The Configure PowerSchool message below will appear.

3. Click the PowerSchool plugin A .zip file will begin downloading immediately that contains the PowerSchool plugin.

4. To access and save the PowerSchool plugin, open the .zip file window and drag the PowerSchool plugin (an .xml file) to a new location. You will need access to this .xml file once you have logged into PowerSchool.

 

HOW TO INSTALL DYKNOW POWERSCHOOL PLUGIN

Follow the steps below to install the PowerSchool plugin downloaded from DyKnow:

1. Navigate to the PowerSchool login page and log into PowerSchool as an Admin.

2. From the main menu, under Setup, click System.

3. On the System page, locate the Server section and click System Settings.

4. On the System Settings page, click Plugin Management Configuration. You will be redirected to the Plugin Management Dashboard.

5. From the Plugin Management Dashboard, click the Install button.

6. From the Plugin Install page, click Browse… to locate and select the PowerSchool plugin (an .xml file) you downloaded from DyKnow.

7. Click the Install button. The PowerSchool plugin will begin installing immediately. If the installation was successful, you’ll receive the following notification.

The PowerSchool plugin will then appear on the Plugin Management Dashboard in the Installed Plugins section; however, the plugin still needs to be enabled.

8. Ensure the PowerSchool plugin is enabled by clicking the respective Enable checkbox on the Plugin Management Dashboard. You may be asked to confirm your giving 3rd party plugin access to your data. If so, select the Enable button.

 

HOW TO GENERATE POWERSCHOOL INTEGRATION CREDENTIALS

Follow the steps below to generate your PowerSchool integration credentials:

1. Navigate to the PowerSchool login page and log into PowerSchool as an Admin.

2. From the main menu, under Setup, click System.

3. On the System page, locate the Server section and click System Settings.

4. On the System Settings page, click Plugin Management Configuration. You will be redirected to the Plugin Management Dashboard.

5. Ensure the PowerSchool plugin is enabled by clicking the respective Enable checkbox on the Plugin Management Dashboard. You may be asked to confirm your giving 3rd party plugin access to your data. If so, select the Enable button.

6. On the Plugin Management Dashboard, click Data Configuration to view the OAuth credentials that were generated for the PowerSchool plugin.

7. Note your PowerSchool Client ID and PowerSchool Client Secret These credentials are necessary to complete the PowerSchool integration in DyKnow.

 

HOW TO ENTER POWERSCHOOL INTEGRATION CREDENTIALS

Follow the steps below to enter your PowerSchool integration credentials in DyKnow:

1. Click the gear icon DyKnow_Web_App_-_gear_icon.png in the DyKnow Web App.

2. Click the Import Manager tab.

On the Import Manager tab, find the Setup Integration: section.

4. Enter your PowerSchool URL into the Integration URL field.

Example: https://myschoolname.powerschool.com

5. Enter your PowerSchool Client ID into the Integration Key field.

6. Enter your PowerSchool Client Secret into the Integration Secret field.

7. Click Select Type of Student Devices and select one of the following three available options from the Student Devices picklist to identify your school’s device type(s).

Options:

  • Only Chromebooks
  • No Chromebooks
  • Mix of Chromebooks and non-Chromebooks

8. Click the Continue: Process Import button.

You will be redirected to the Import Manager tab and the following notification will appear in the upper right-hand corner.

HOW TO PROCESS POWERSCHOOL DATA IN DYKNOW

Follow the steps below to process your PowerSchool data in DyKnow:

1. Click the gear icon DyKnow_Web_App_-_gear_icon.png in the DyKnow Web App.

2. On the Import Manager tab, click Import.

A Summary From Last Run message will appear, even if this is your first time importing.

3. Click the Process Import button.

The following Processing message will appear.

Note: Your import will process during off-peak hours. It will process within 24 hours.

4. Once your import is complete, you will receive an Import Results confirmation email like the one below.

Note: If your data files include changes that exceed Import Thresholds, you will receive a notification email in addition to the Import Results confirmation email. To review and validate your data file import errors, read the Validate Paused SIS Imports article.

 

HOW TO DISABLE POWERSCHOOL INTEGRATION

Please contact DyKnow Support to disable your PowerSchool integration.
